Construction and the Environment: Building on Brownfield Sites

Welcome to my blog. My name is Adrian and I live just outside of Perth. Last year I purchased a brownfield site so I could develop it into a residential housing area. There used to be a factory on the site and so I was worried about the levels of chemicals and other contaminants in the soil. I had never developed a brownfield site before, so I contacted an environmental consultant. The consultant took samples of the soil and water and tested them. He then explained exactly what steps I would need to take to clear the site so I could commence construction. The properties are now almost finished. I started this blog to explain the many benefits of hiring an environmental consultant.

This article highlights the critical benefits of a soil test. Read More …

There are so many potential reasons as to why the soil on your private property may become eroded. One of the most common reasons for soil erosion in several Australian homes is rain and run-off. When it rains heavily, the rain and subsequent run-off tends to cause soil loss of different quantities depending on (among other factors) how easily the soil particles can be disintegrated and the relative rate at which the soil absorbs water. When it comes to setting up outdoor corporate functions, waste disposal is often an unfortunate afterthought. If you've even been to a racing carnival, major (or even minor) sporting event, or just an event where thousands of people congregate in a relatively small area, then you know all too well how the ground becomes littered and disgusting, especially towards the end of the event. Skip bins can help to alleviate this issue, especially if you instruct your guests as they arrive to make use of the bins to help respect the cleanliness of the environment around them. Read More …

Bush regeneration can be necessary after an area of bushland has been affected by a natural disaster, such as an extreme storm or bushfire. Certainly, regeneration would occur naturally, although human intervention can speed up the process, thus returning the area of bushland to its former glory. The process is not only helpful after a natural disaster, but it can also be applied to bushland that has been adversely affected by introduced noxious plant species. Read More …
